Bobrisky Loses $990 in Romance Scam — Cautions Fans After Painful Betrayal
Popular Nigerian crossdresser and socialite, Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, better known as Bobrisky, has opened up about a personal experience that many wouldn’t expect from someone with his platform — he fell victim to a romance scam.
In a candid Instagram post, Bobrisky detailed how he lost $990 to a scammer who posed as a genuine admirer and built a connection with him over several months. According to him, the man claimed to be living in the United States but later said he had moved to Canada. Their regular chats and daily calls led Bobrisky to believe he had found someone trustworthy.
The situation took a turn when Bobrisky received a business request from a client in the U.S. who wanted to send payment via CashApp. Since Bobrisky didn’t have a working CashApp account, he turned to his new “friend,” who offered to help by receiving the money on his behalf.
But as soon as the funds were sent, the supposed friend disappeared — blocking Bobrisky immediately.
“I never thought in my life I would be a client to anybody,” Bobrisky wrote. “This guy came to my DM, and we got talking for a few months. He called me almost every day… As soon as he got the money, he blocked me immediately.”
He also posted screenshots of their conversations and a picture of the alleged scammer, warning fans to be cautious with whom they trust online — no matter how "real" someone may seem.
💬 Opinion: Even Celebrities Are Not Immune to Scams
Bobrisky’s story serves as a stark reminder that romance and trust scams are no respecter of status, fame, or wealth. If someone as socially savvy and media-aware as Bobrisky could be manipulated, then truly, anyone can be.
What’s commendable, however, is his willingness to speak out. Many victims remain silent due to embarrassment or shame. But by sharing his story, Bobrisky is not only reclaiming his narrative — he’s also helping others avoid similar traps.
In an era where digital relationships are becoming more common, this incident shines a light on the dark side of online interactions, urging all of us to remain vigilant, verify identities, and never let emotions cloud our judgment when money is involved.
