Amusan anchors Nigeria's 4x100m relay to gold at the African Athletics Championships

Nigeria has won one gold and two silver medals after Day two of the ongoing 22nd African Athletics Championship holding in Mauritius.

Tobiloba Amusan, a sprint hurdler, led the Nigerian women's 4x100m relay team to gold in spectacular fashion. Tobiloba Amusan fulfilled expectations as she raced home first in the 100m hurdles to ensure Team Nigeria is among the eight countries that have won gold at the event

Praise Idamadudu, Tima Godbless, Praise Ofoku, and Amusan successfully defended the title they won four years ago in Asaba, Delta state, at the 21st edition of the championship, despite qualifying for the final as one of the two fastest losers.

Idamadudu was quick out of the blocks and handed over the baton to Godbless, the 100m finalist who established a clear lead before handing over to Ofoku.

The World U20 Championship finalist made up for the disappointment of not making the 100m final by running the second curve in a blistering fashion as she maintained the advantage created by Godbless before handing  over the baton to 100m hurdles champion, Amusan who slightly increased the advantage to coast home in first position.

High jumper Adeshina Temitope and the 4x400m mixed relay team also ended the second day of competition with silver medals.

In the second heat to secure one of the three slots on offer for the final, the men’s team came third (40.15), the women’s team managed to get over the line as one of the two fastest ‘losers’ with their 46.30s performance.
