Burna Boy’s police escorts shot two fun seekers at Club Cubana, Victoria Island, Lagos
Lagos State Police Commissioner's Special Squad has detained five police officers attached to musician Damini Ogulu, called Burna Boy, for attempted murder after shooting two revelers, Irebami Lawrence and Tolu, at Club Cubana on Victoria Island in Lagos on Wednesday.
The singer and five police escorts visited the Club Cubana, Victoria Island, Lagos nightclub about 4 a.m. on June 8, according to a preliminary investigation by the Bar Beach Police Division.
Four police officers waited outside as one of them, Inspector Ibrahim, who was dressed in mufti, escorted the Grammy-winning performer into the club.
According to multiple witness statements, the singer was in the VIP section with three women when he spotted another woman.
He apparently asked Ibrahim to invite the woman to come join him.
The lady's husband, on the other hand, was alleged to have slammed the artist, claiming that any guy making advances at his wife was disrespectful.
Burna Boy reportedly made some new approaches at the woman after a few minutes.
This infuriated her husband further and his friends who had gathered at the club.
“As things were getting heated, Ibrahim brought out his service pistol and shot multiple times while Burna Boy was laughing,” said a senior policeman.
In the process, 27-year-old Lawrence was shot in the thigh while his friend, Tolu, was hit in the head by a bullet. This caused a commotion in the club.
Burna Boy and his entourage then drove to one of his houses around the Elegushi end of the Lekki-Epe Expressway before heading to Lekki Phase 1 according to reports.
"After realizing what he'd done, Burna Boy boarded the next flight without even telling the cops. He only communicated with them via video conference to inform them that he had traveled to Spain. "All of his police escorts have been apprehended and are currently being held at the Command headquarters," a top source in the Lagos State Commissioner of Police's office claimed.
Attempts to contact Burna Boy's manager, Mrs Bose Ogulu, who is also his mother, were unsuccessful since she did not respond to calls or texts on Saturday.
On Saturday, Chioma Nwachukwu, a media consultant for Cubana, did not return calls.
However, Benjamin Hundeyin, a spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, stated that the police officers were the focus of the inquiry.
Hundeyin said that no victim had filed a complaint with the police
