Gunmen kidnap an Anglican bishop and his wife in Oyo, demanding N50 million in ransom.

Rt. Rev Oluwaseun Aderogba, the Anglican Bishop of Jebba Diocese in Kwara State, and his wife have reportedly been kidnapped by gunmen.

His driver was also kidnapped, along with the couple, while they were driving on the new Oyo-Ogbomoso Expressway in Oyo State.

The bishop and his wife were reportedly on their way to Kwara State when their car broke down at a lonely stretch of road about 8:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The gun-wielding hoodlums reportedly swooped down on them and pulled them into the bush not long after.

Sources said their abductors have demanded a ransom of N50 million to free their captives.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the abduction in a statement on Monday morning and said the command had swung into action to free the captives and arrest the criminals.

"Preliminary investigations suggest that the victim's vehicle developed what appeared to be a mechanical malfunction while going from Yewa, Ogun State to Jebba, Kwara State along the New Oyo/Ogbomoso Expressway in an isolated region."

“Meanwhile discreet investigation led by the State Criminal Investigation Department is simultaneously being vigorously embarked upon to ensure that the victims are rescued unhurt.

"By encouraging members of the public to report any suspicions to the local Police Division or formation, credible and timely information, the general public can be assured of their safety as they go about their lawful activities," says the statement.
