Benin City to host World Championship and Commonwealth Game events
The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has announced that the selection trials for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and the World Championships in Athletics in Oregon, USA will be held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.
The Nigerian Championship, which serves as a qualifier for the two main events, will begin in July and run from June 21 to 23. According to Prince Adisa Beyioku, Secretary General of the AFN, the Nigerian Championship will begin in July and run from June 21 to 23.
The preparations for a successful championship have been completed.
"The AFN is prepared to host a tournament that will reflect our expanding international profile in athletics." To that aim, the federation's president, Tonobok Okowa, has established a committee to manage the event's technical and administrative organization," said Beyioku, who chose Solomon Ogba, a two-time AFN president, as president.
"On the fringes of the 22nd African Championships in Athletics in Mauritius, Chief Ogba and some committee members met and got rolling," he stated.
