Brymo apologizes for comments on the Igbo president.

Olawale BrymO, a singer, has apologized for his comments on the likelihood of a south-easterner creating a Nigerian president.

Thousands of Nigerians joined a petition to prevent the artist from receiving the All Africa Music Award, for which he was nominated in the 'Songwriter of the Year' category.

The artist was chastised for claiming that the Igbos are not prepared to produce a Nigerian president.

He also advised the area to try out for the vice presidency before striving for the presidency.

On Friday night, he went live on Instagram to address the matter and explain what prompted his posts.

Brymo stated that the controversy arose when he expressed his views on novelist Chimamanda Adichie's refusal of national honors while accepting a chieftaincy title in her birthplace of Abba, Anambra State.

"It is critical that you realize that this entire saga began with me reading in the media that Chimamanda Adichie had denied certain national accolades and had taken up some traditional title in the East at home," he stated.

"And I indicated that for me, that speaks a lot about the Igbo presidency because that real seat is what the area should be pursuing right now. You wouldn't believe how much I've pushed for an Igbo president in the previous five years.

"It will flash in your mind when you hear the news that Igbos do not truly desire the president.

"I did not offend the tribe, and I apologize to anyone who thought I did. I was attempting to weigh in on a really significant issue."
