Breaking: Ajagba outboxes Shaw and wins by unanimous decision.

Efe Ajagba, a Nigerian boxer, defeated hitherto unbeaten Stephan Show in the early hours of Sunday morning, faring better than the last time he faced a boxer-puncher.

Ajagba upset previously undefeated Shaw by unanimous decision two fights after his one-sided, unanimous-decision loss to Frank Sanchez.

Ajagba of Nigeria was the aggressor for nearly all ten rounds, while Shaw appeared hesitant to engage with the hard-hitting heavyweight contender in the main event at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York.

Judges Eric Marlinski, John McKaie, and Don Trella all scored their uninteresting match the same way, 96-94 for Ajagba.

Ajagba (17-1, 13 KOs), a 2016 Olympian from Nigeria, won his second consecutive bout after Sanchez defeated him. Sanchez (21-0, 14 KOs) of Cuba down Ajagba in the seventh round and easily out-pointed him on all three scorecards in a 10-rounder on the undercard of Tyson Fury-Deontay Wilder in October 2021 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Following his defeat to Sanchez, Ajagba underwent elbow surgery on both elbows. He pledged to box better against Shaw than he did against Sanchez because he was healthier and more confident.

Meanwhile, St. Louis' Shaw was unable to capitalize on the biggest chance of his nine-year professional career.

Shaw (18-1, 13 KOs, 1 NC) accepted the fight against Ajagba with less than a month's notice. Ajagba was scheduled to face Colombian contender Oscar Rivas (28-1, 19 KOs), but Rivas sustained a detached retina last month while training.

Shaw was already preparing to face Italian prospect Guido Vianello (10-1-1, 9 KOs), who was halted in the seventh round of the co-main event by Jonnie Rice (16-6-1, 11 KOs) due to a cut.
