Backing Wilder to defeat Joshua
David Price, the former sparring partner of the British-Nigerian, has supported Deontay Wilder to defeat Anthony Joshua.
Eddie Hearn, Joshua's promoter, has spoken with Shelly Finkel, Wilder's manager, and they have discussed the possibility of a year-ending blockbuster.
It happened after he discouraged Joshua from returning right away to a superfight with his American opponent, who defeated Robert Helenius, 38, last October. Joshua had previously lost to Oleksandr Usyk.
The only person left to support Wilder is Price, who once defeated Joshua in 2011 when the 33-year-old was the amateur champion.
I'd have to say Wilder," he said to iD Boxing. Simply said, I believe he is less emotionally scarred, especially following his victory over Robert Helenius, when everything returned to normal for him and business as usual.
Joshua, on the other hand, is a more analytical person who places more pressure on himself to accomplish. He is a perfectionist, which is a bad quality in a sportsman.
"You may call yourself a perfectionist, and that's fantastic, but when you find that nothing short of perfect makes you happy, that's when it starts to become an issue because it means that you're never content and you're never pleased with your work.
"Wilder is still really unpolished; he doesn't care about appearances; he just wants to do the job, and I think that will show in the fight.
"He will be less cautious and let his hands go more, and that will be what wins the battle."
Before aiming for a summer rematch with Dillian Whyte, 34, who he defeated in 2015, Joshua is anticipated to make a comeback in April against a competitor ranked in the top 15.
A megafight between Joshua and Wilder to end the year would be set up, something retiring Price would love to see happen.
One more loss may be disastrous for him, he continued, so I'd pick myself back up. The battle with Dillian Whyte makes sense... then he may consider taking on Fury or Wilder, among other worthy opponents.
