Gunmen in fake police uniform attack man, make away millions of naira in Kwara

A three-man gang of armed robbers dressed in fake police uniform in Ilorin, Kwara State capital on Tuesday afternoon  attacked an unidentified man and  took  away his millions.

The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon at Lajorin Street, close to the state High Court areas in the state capital, according to reliable sources.

The thieves, who were apparently armed with A-K 47 rifles, had followed the victim, who was thought to be around 60 years old, from a nearby Commercial bank where he had collected the large sum to the location where he was robbed at gunpoint.

Residents were still in disbelief about the occurrence, which they said lasted a few minutes, when our correspondent arrived at the scene around 6:50 p.m.

"It was like a movie," claimed one eyewitness who did not want to be identified.

"The robbers rode in an ash Toyota Corolla 2016 model while dressed in police uniforms."

"I assumed they were cops." I initially assumed the victim was a young boy and advised them to be gentle with him. But I soon realized they were hooded arm robbers and fled the scene in style.

"They yelled at the victim, who was trailed from FCMB in Murtala to bring the money after he was ambushed, in a metallic green Toyota Corolla 2006 model."

"The victim was simply staring at them." "They pointed the gun at him and then took the money from the car, which was later discovered to be in the millions, and drove away," the witness recalled.

Vanguard also gathered that the victim said to be in deep shock couldn’t mutter a word until the armed robbers successfully bolted away after which he started yelling for help.

Several calls to the spokesman of the kwara state police command, Ajayi Okasanmi, were unsuccessful.

He was also yet to reply to a text message seeking his response to the incident before the filing of this report Tuesday night.
