Come to EPL, join Chelsea, Mikel tells Osimhen
Former Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi has recommended Napoli striker Victor Osimhen to join Chelsea over his childhood club, Manchester United, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Mikel, a member of the Eagles side that won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations for the third time in South Africa, revealed this in the newest episode of The Obi One podcast.
Osimhen will succeed as a footballer if he joined Chelsea next summer, according to the former Chelsea great.
Osimhen drew interest from a number of European teams this summer after leading Napoli to their first Serie A title in 33 years with 26 goals in 32 league games.
While Chelsea, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain were rumoured to be interested, Napoli's huge financial demands ultimately led to the club's demise.
Osimhen is still a member of the Italian club.
The striker, who is under contract with Napoli until June 2025, was thought to be close to a new contract, but talks apparently broke down.
stumbling block due to issues surrounding the player’s salary demands, a potential release clause and a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia.
The striker’s recent TikTok row with the club has also thrown his future at the club in doubt.
“I think he (Osimhen) will seamlessly fit into the Premier League. He got the tools to be a success in England,” Mikel said.
"When I looked at him a few years ago, I would have said 'no.'" But after watching him last season and this season, I would say he would probably come into the Premier League and fit right in. He'd get you goals, he'd get behind defenders, he'd stretch the squad, and I think that's what a lot of teams in the Premier League are looking for right now, a striker who can run, who wants to run behind defenders because it benefits your team. Isn't that correct? He stretches the defenders, the game becomes open and then you can create chances. And I think that’s what Victor (Osimhen) would definitely give you.
“I hope he comes to Chelsea. But from the noises that I hear, he is a big United fan. But I hope he comes to Chelsea really.”
Osimhen has scored six times with an assist from 10 games this season.
