Police avert theft of train coaches in Maiduguri
The Borno State Police Command prevented the robbery of four train coaches at the Maiduguri Railway Terminus on Saturday.
According to a source who spoke with our correspondent, the officials detained the criminals after receiving a tip from Good Samaritans in the vicinity.
"A suspected theft of train coaches of the Nigerian Railway Corporation was foiled at the Maiduguri Railway Terminus following a tip-off by Good Samaritans," the source added. The police also apprehended the suspects."
When reached, the Nigerian Railway Corporation's spokesperson, Mahmood Yakubu, denied knowledge of the incident but sent our correspondent to the regional manager for more information.
However, dialing the regional manager's phone number revealed that it was shut off.
However, Sami Kamilu, the police command's spokesperson, acknowledged the occurrence, adding that six individuals had been apprehended.
"Yes, it's confirmed," he said. We cannot confirm the number of train coaches at this time, but it is correct. We also apprehended six suspects, and that is all I can say for the time being."
