Barely 12hrs after installation, driver vandalises truck barrier on Dorman-Long flyover
By Olasunkanmi Akoni On Sunday, officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, caught a driver for breaking a truck barrier on the Dorman-Long Flyover in the Surulere section of the state's Ikorodu Road (Fadeyi).
Recall that after a travel advisory issued, the state government had on Saturday midnight into Sunday morning, installed the truck barrier at the Dorman-Long Flyover which lasted from 10pm to 7am.
Earlier, the state Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, who announced the planned installation, said it was part of efforts to reduce the number of articulated vehicle accidents on the state's flyovers, which have lost lives and property.
Meanwhile, Taofiq Adebayo, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, confirmed the vandalism and stated that the driver, Mr. Sarafa Oladiji, was detained.
Adebayo further stated that he was arrested and his car confiscated after driving his truck beneath the freshly placed truck barrier on the Dorman-Long Flyover.
He said: "Preliminary investigation revealed that the truck which was fully loaded with compressed papers damaged barrier after he got trapped and the driver forced the truck out under the barrier."
According to reports, the fully laden truck was on his way to Shagamu from Alakija, where he had loaded before the tragedy.
Following that, LASTMA personnel led by Olukoga Olajide withdrew the loaded truck from the road and immediately turned over the arrested driver to officers from Area 'C' Police Division at Barracks, Surulere for further investigation.
