Over 20,000 offline, online fans watched N5m football faceoff in Lagos
On Saturday, over 20,000 offline and online followers watched the much-anticipated N5 million football match between Lagos businessman Suraj Oyewale's squad, branded Jarus FC, and a handpicked team of his Twitter mutuals at the Campos Mini-Stadium on Lagos Island.
The game culminated in an exciting 4-3 victory for the self-proclaimed "deadly striker" club.
Meanwhile, the pre-match excitement brought thousands of football fans to the stadium to see what both teams had to offer.
According to game data, over 22,000 people viewed the game live on YouTube, while the promoter, Oyewale, stated that over 1,800 fans watched from the stadium.
According to TalkTalk Nigeria Online, despite claiming his N5 million bet, Oyewale failed to score, costing him N200,000 every goal. The shutout also meant that Twitter FC's two goalkeepers took home N1 million (N500,000 apiece).
The First-Class Obafemi Awolowo University Economics graduate boasted about his scoring prowess and threatened to silence his critics, who said his team was made up of plumbers and carpenters.
Some people who spoke after the game praised the organizers for putting on a terrific display despite the short notice.
