‘S’African golf tourney to foster Nigerian ties’

Professor Bobby Moroe, Consular General of the South African High Commission in Nigeria, feels that the South African Cup golf event, which ended on Sunday at Ikoyi Club 1938, will strengthen ties between the countries' businesses.

Ninety-three amateur golfers competed in the one-day Stableford competition at Ikoyi Club's golf area, with Ashish Gajjar and Ambassador Pauline Onafowokan winning the male and female categories, respectively. Gajjar led the men's field with 41 Stableford points, while Onafowokan finished her round with 37 points.

The ceremony also commemorated South Africa's 30th anniversary of freedom and democracy, as well as its uninterrupted diplomatic connection with Nigeria.

"The purpose of this event is to build positive interactions between South African and Nigerian business leaders. We have had positive feedback since the inaugural event last year, and we hope to continue including it in South African Week in the future," Moroe said.

Tolu Adesemowo, Chief Executive of Crossflex International, added that everyone involved is looking forward to the tournament's next edition.

"It has been a success from the start and that is why all parties are looking forward to the event and taking the impact of the event further from the golf course."

Prakash Keswani, who surprised everyone by finishing in 30th place, was another winner of the event.

Linda Obieze and Funmi Omo finished second and third in the women's category with 36 and 34 Stableford points, respectively, while Uyi Osemwenge and Olubanwo Latilo finished second and third in the men's category with 40 and 39 points.
