Navy Captain Sunday Haruna, a handicapped eight-player, emerged the overall winner scoring 77 gross and netting 68 at the TY Buratai Golf Course in Abuja in a special golf tournament to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Nigeria Military School establishment.
Navy Captain Sunday Haruna, a handicapped eight-player, won the overall competition at the TY Buratai Golf Course in Abuja, scoring 77 gross and netting 68, to honor the Nigeria Military School's 70th anniversary.
The event, which was kicked off on Saturday by the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, was organized by the NMS ex-boys organization as part of the school's 70th anniversary celebrations.
AVM K.G. Lar (retd.), Chairman of the event's Local Organising Committee, stated that 200 golfers took part in the tournament.
"About 200 players are participating, including 50 former NMS boys and 150 friends from various golf clubs across the country. Last year, it was played in the Nigerian Air Force Base Shasha, Lagos and I emerged champion,” AVM Lar said.
Ogalla, the special guest of honor and an ex-boy from the 1982 set, praised the organisers for organizing the golf event, stating that sports had always been a part of military culture.
He remarked, "First and foremost, I'd like to thank the organizing committee for this golf competition. It is something we have organized together to commemorate the 70th anniversary of our Alma Mater, Nigeria Military School.
"It is a school that we are all proud of, and if you ask me about my best military experience, I will tell you about the Nigeria Military School. That is where we create the discipline, character, resilience, and essence of hard labor within ourselves, and that is same character that is pushing us all along.”
