Ejuke, Yusuf suffer Belgian Cup heartbreak

Nigerian duo Chidera Ejuke and Alhassan Yusuf came on as second-half substitutes as holders Royal Antwerp lost 1-0 to Union Saint-Gilloise in the Belgian Cup final on Thursday, according to TalkTalk Nigeria Sports Extra.

Although both players are regulars for Antwerp, coach Mark van Bommel only brought them on in the 73rd minute, after they had conceded on the stroke of halftime.

Union Saint-Gilloise ended a 110-year wait to win the Belgian Cup with Koki Machida's goal earning them a 1-0 victory against holders Royal Antwerp in the final in Brussels.

Machida's goal also served as retribution for Union St-Gilloise, as they exacted their revenge on Antwerp, who defeated them on the final day of last season to win the league for the first time in 66 years.

Antwerp, who won both the domestic league and the cup last season, may finish the season without a trophy because they are in last place in the title playoffs.

Union, on the other hand, has recovered from decades of stagnation over the last three seasons. They are also aiming for league victory this season, as they are third in the playoffs, three points behind leaders Club Brugge.
