Portable Fails To Meet Bail Conditions, Sleeps In Police Cell
Habeeb Okikiola, a Nigerian music musician better known as Portable, spent the night in a police cell after failing to meet the bail requirements for his release.
According to TalkTalk Nigeria News, the musician was detained for refusing to repay the N14 million debt he accrued when purchasing a G-Wagon from an auto dealer in Lagos State.
Portable paid only N13m for the vehicle valued N27m and refused to pay the remaining N14m alleging that the vehicle was poor.
Despite repeated unsuccessful attempts to persuade him to pay the remaining, the vehicle dealer reported the incident to the police.
A source confirmed the development to The Punch on Wednesday, saying the musician is still in police custody.
According to the source, when Portable was arrested on Tuesday, bail terms were set for his release, but he did not meet them.
He stated, "He is still in police custody as we speak." When he paid N13m for the G-Wagon, which cost N27m, and refused to pay the remaining, the car dealer requested him to return the vehicle, which he rejected.
Additionally, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, verified that Portable spent the night in a police cell after being arrested.
He stated, "He has offered no reliable surety yet he (Portable) is still with us.”
