Scotland: Ferguson tips Dessers to score 40 goals for Rangers next season
Iain Ferguson, a former Rangers striker, hopes Cyriel Dessers will score 40 goals for the club next season.
Rangers paid £4.5 million to go from Italian club Cremonese to Ibrox last summer.
Despite questions about his background, Dessers scored 22 goals in all competitions in his first season with the Light Blues.
The Nigeria international also squandered excellent opportunities.
Ferguson, on the other hand, feels Dessers will perform well the next season.
Everything today revolves on statistics, and his (Dessers) are quite impressive. Scoring 22 goals is a decent number. Many strikers would be happy with that in a season. "If he took penalties, he'd be about 30," Ferguson told the Scottish Sun.
"And having learned about Scottish football and what he's up to against if he has a better strike rate, he could go out next season and get 40. Of course, everything you hear about him is that he gets a lot of chances and misses them. But that applies to a lot of strikers. Maybe he hasn’t scored as many as he and a lot of supporters would have liked.”
