Transfer: Worry for Guardiola as Haaland’s £175m release clause becomes active
Manchester City are desperate to sign Erling Haaland to a new deal.
Haaland has had two successful seasons in the Premier League, earning back-to-back titles at the Etihad Stadium since joining in a £51 million trade from Borussia Dortmund in summer 2022.
The Norwegian international has three years left on his deal.
However, a clause in the deal with City that allows Haaland to join any team outside of England for £175 million went into effect this summer.
According to the UK Mirror, Haaland's buy-out money will be reduced in each of the final three seasons of his contract.
City are already preparing for life without manager Pep Guardiola in case the Catalan decides not to sign a contract extension and his trophy-laden nine-year reign when his current deal runs out next summer.
