"I withdraw my respect"—Charly Boy protests to the renaming of the National Theatre after Soyinka
Charles Oputa, aka Charly Boy, a veteran singer and social activist, has said he will no longer respect Nobel Laureate Prof Wole Soyinka.
Charly Boy, a vocal adversary of President Bola Tinubu, made the claim in a post on his official X Twitter on Friday in response to the renaming of the National Arts Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos after Soyinka.
According to TalkTalk Nigeria, in a tribute to Soyinka on his 90th birthday, President Tinubu announced the facility's renaming after him.
In response, Charly Boy opposed the move in his post, claiming the "Mighty have fallen, for beans"
He wrote, "Uncle WOLE." I now retract every respect I once had for you.
"When late Jimmy Johnson talked about you in the 1990s, I assumed he was just yabbing you.
"Wow! How many of our MIGHTYs have fallen, for beans, ewa, dodo, or rice?
