Transfer: Liverpool offers Van Dijk to Atletico Madrid.
Liverpool has offered their captain, Virgil van Dijk, to Atletico Madrid.
The Netherlands international might depart the Premier League heavyweights during the summer transfer window.
Van Dijk's contract at Anfield expires in the summer of 2025.
The Dutchman has been a vital player and leader for the club, particularly under Jurgen Klopp, since joining from Southampton in January 2018 for a reputed sum of £75 million.
He has appeared in 270 games for the Reds, scoring 23 goals and assisting 12 times, helping the Premier League club capture nearly every trophy available.
According to Football365, Liverpool has extended an offer to Atletico Madrid for the 33-year-old this summer.
This is mostly because the Reds want to usher in a new era after Jurgen Klopp's departure.
However, Atletico Madrid is thought to be uninterested in taking up the offer.
To preserve their finances, the Spanish club is reportedly looking at players with a lower profile and salary.
According to Capology, Van Dijk earns £220,000 each week, not including bonuses.
