Michael Kors Lights Up Broadway to mark his 40th Anniversary.

To mark his 40th Anniversary, Michael Kors held a spectacular runway show at the Broadway to showcase his Fall collection.

The performance had a multi-generational cast of supermodels who have walked in his shows over the years, including Bella Hadid, Naomi Campbell, Shalom Harlow, Helena Christensen, Liya Kebede, Karen Elson, Paloma Elsesser, Precious Lee, and Alek Wek.

The event kicked off with a greeting from the designer live from Times Square, followed by a pre-recorded trip to Sardi’s, Kors’ favourite pre-theatre restaurant, where caricatures of movie stars line the walls.

Following his message, models jaunted out of Sardi’s in chic, intentionally cut pieces boasting rich reds, nudes, black, and white as Rufus Wainwright crooned Broadway classics from inside the theatre. Each look, a sharply tailored gem, supposed a timeless elegance that could blend into the Broadway nightlife of any generation—a perfect summation of Kors’ last 40 years.

According to the press release, the 63-piece collection was inspired by the re-opening of the world: “I was really thinking about the joy in getting dressed up and stepping out for a night on the town,” Kors said. “This collection is all about making every moment a special occasion and feeling confident, glamorous, and upbeat.”

In 1981, a young Kors launched his name brand collection at the famed New York City department store Bergdorf Goodman. While he spent several years in the late ’90s/early ’00s as the head designer at Celine, he’s spent most of his career cultivating and growing his label. Both he and his brand center themselves around the city and its culture, of which Broadway is a vital component.
