Mariah Carey lost her mother and sister on the same day.

American diva Mariah Carey has stated that her mother, Patricia, and sister, Alison, died on the same day last weekend.

The multiple Grammy-winning musician confirmed this in a statement on Monday, but did not reveal the reasons of death for either woman or the date.

"My heart is devastated since I lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of circumstances, my sister died on the same day. "I was blessed to be able to spend the last week with my mother before she died," Carey remarked.

Before her death, Mariah Carey's mother, Patricia, a well-known opera singer, worked with her daughter.

Mariah Carey has previously stated that her mother was the inspiration for her musical career.

Carey had an estranged connection with her sister, Alison.

According to Variety, Carey stated in her memoir that she felt it "emotionally and physically safer" to avoid contact with her sister Alison and brother Morgan.

TalkTalk Nigeria reports that Carey's father, Alfred Roy Carey, died of cancer in 2002.
