Edo Guber Poll: Group raises alarm over alleged immigration of goons, blaming APC
Just a week before the governorship election in Edo State, the Edo Collectives, a socio-cultural group, has voiced concerns about the alleged importation of thugs into the state.
The governorship election is set for Saturday, September 21st, 2024.
The group claimed that the All Progressives Congress, or APC, was orchestrating the purported migration of thugs into Edo State.
According to the spokesman for Edo Collectives, Ese Ipboba, the thugs, who are largely from Kogi and Imo states, are there to disrupt the election.
Ipboba stated that the thugs are already in position in Edo State and have been briefed on their task.
However, he warned against electoral violence, stating that the people of Edo State are more committed to hold a peaceful election on September 21.
He stated that the people of Edo will go to any length to preserve their votes and are prepared to face the goons.
"We will not let them come and disrupt the election. And we will not give them the freedom to write results without consulting the electorates," he declared.
According to TalkTalk Nigeria, the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, has refused to sign the Peace Accord before of the governorship election.
The party claims that members are being arrested and detained by the police.
The APC and 16 other political parties signed the Peace Accord on Thursday, September 12, 2024, in Benin City.
The APC initially stated that it will boycott the signing of the Peace Accord.
