NPFL: Falolu’s late winner denies Insurance point in Katsina

NPFL: Falolu’s late winner denies Insurance point in Katsina

Midfielder Azeez Falolu came up with a stoppage time winner for Katsina United on Sunday, earning the Chanji Boys a 2-1 win over Bendel Insurance during their Nigeria Premier Football League clash at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina.

Bendel Insurance drew the first blood in the game through James Orosanye in the 17th minute but the hosts replied just five minutes later courtesy of Lookman Bello.

As the away side were on course for a priceless point on the road, Falolu completed Katsina United’s comeback with the winning goal in stoppage time to earn them their first win of the season.

Insurance on the other hand were held to a goalless draw at home last week by Rivers United, leaving them with just one point in the table after two matches.

In the other NPFL match-day two games decided on Sunday, Eddidiong Ezekiel’s last-minute penalty also rescued a point for hosts Akwa United against Abia Warriors in Uyo.

The visitors, led by Imama Amapakabo had scored the opening goal of the encounter through Ojonugwa Adejoh as early as the fourth minute, but their resilience was broke in added time when Innocent Godwin handled the ball in the area.

The resulting penalty was converted for Akwa United by second half substitute Ezekiel for consecutive draws in their first two games of the season.

In Yenagoa, Rabiu Abdullahi also rescued a point for Ladan Bosso’s Bayelsa United in their 1-1 draw against Kano Pillars at the Samson Siasia Stadium. Auwalu Mallam had opened scoring for Pillars in the 14th minute of the game.

In Minna, Niger Tornadoes returned to the Bako Kontagora Stadium but they couldn’t build on their away win at Kwara United last week as they were held to a goalless draw by Nasarawa United.
