More information are emerging about how Napoli thwarted Victor Osimhen's attempts to leave the club this summer.

Last year, Osimhen was the center of attention after helping the Serie A team break a 33-year title drought.

Despite interest from Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Saudi Arabia, the 25-year-old remained in Italy.

But Osimhen agreed to new terms with Napoli, including a wage increase and a €120 million release clause.

His departure was generally expected this year, but it did not go as planned.

According to Jacobs Ben of GiveMeSport, Napoli insisted on the €120 million+ release clause throughout the summer.

Even if the player agreed to terms with Paris Saint-Germain, the former Italian champions requested more than €100 million. As a result, the transaction fell through.

Al-Ahli also reached arrangements with Osimhen and a €80 million deal with Napoli, only for the price to rise once the Serie A club learned of the Ivan Toney transfer fee.

Chelsea's situation was very protracted, as the Blues offered both a loan and, later, a loan with obligation but were unable to reach an agreement with Osimhen.

Osimhen has agreed to join Galatasaray on a straight loan, with a January break clause.

It is expected that Napoli will still sell him in 2025, but will reduce his release clause to €75 million.
