Olaiya Igwe Regrets Disappointing Tope Alabi on Her Wedding Day: “My Greatest Regret”

Olaiya Igwe Regrets Disappointing Tope Alabi on Her Wedding Day: “My Greatest Regret”

Veteran Nollywood actor Olaiya Igwe has expressed deep regret over disappointing popular gospel singer Tope Alabi on one of the most important days of her life — her wedding day. The incident, which occurred years ago, continues to haunt the seasoned actor despite having sought forgiveness from the singer and her husband, Soji Alabi.

Speaking in a heartfelt interview with Baba Ibe TV, Olaiya Igwe recounted how he disappointed Tope Alabi and her husband after initially agreeing to lend them his luxury car as their official ride for the wedding.

According to him, the incident happened not long after the release of his popular movie Ololade Mr Money, during which he purchased a “V Boot” Mercedes Benz and proudly inscribed Ololade Mr Money 1 on the car.

He explained that Tope Alabi and her husband had visited him during their wedding preparations to borrow the car, to which he agreed. However, the actor had a change of heart, fearing that armed robbers might snatch the car from them as his own car had just been stolen and recovered days earlier during a trip to Ibadan.

“I stopped picking her calls a day before the wedding. I didn’t give her the car. I disappointed Tope Alabi. But she now has countless luxury cars, some of which I cannot afford. So, up till today I’m still in pain that I offended Tope Alabi. My greatest regret is disappointing Tope Alabi,” he admitted.

Despite apologizing to the singer during a professional meeting in Ogun State, Olaiya Igwe confessed that he still feels guilty about the incident and wishes he could undo the mistake.

Opinion: A Lesson in Accountability and Forgiveness

Olaiya Igwe’s confession highlights the importance of accountability and seeking forgiveness. Admitting past mistakes, especially those that weigh heavily on one’s conscience, is not easy. However, the actor’s candidness in sharing his regrets demonstrates humility and growth.

Interestingly, Tope Alabi’s story of success and prosperity seems to offer a profound lesson of grace and resilience. Despite the disappointment, she has flourished in her career, proving that setbacks, whether big or small, cannot hinder one’s destiny.

While it’s admirable that Olaiya Igwe has attempted to make amends, perhaps it’s time for him to let go of the guilt and embrace peace, knowing that Tope Alabi has likely moved on from the incident. After all, growth and healing often come from forgiving oneself.
