Super Eagles Climb One Spot in Latest FIFA Ranking, Now 43rd in the World
The Super Eagles of Nigeria have moved up one place in the latest FIFA Men’s Ranking, rising from 44th to 43rd globally. The ranking, released by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) on Thursday, is the first update of 2025.
Despite the slight improvement on the world stage, Nigeria dropped to sixth place in Africa, trailing behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, and Côte d’Ivoire—the top five ranked teams on the continent.
Super Eagles’ Recent Performances and Ranking Impact
The ranking shift comes after the Super Eagles played two crucial matches in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers last month.
Nigeria defeated Rwanda’s Amavubi 2-0 at the Amahoro Stadium, Kigali.
The Super Eagles settled for a 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
While the victory against Rwanda contributed to Nigeria’s rise, the draw against Zimbabwe might have cost them a better position in the ranking.
The Global Picture: Who Leads the Pack?
World champions Argentina maintained their No. 1 spot, while Spain, France, England, and Brazil completed the top five teams in the world.
What This Means for the Super Eagles
Although moving up one spot is a positive sign, Nigeria’s drop to sixth place in Africa raises questions about the team’s consistency and performances in key fixtures. With crucial World Cup qualifiers ahead, the Super Eagles must improve their form if they hope to climb higher in the rankings and assert dominance in African football.
Do you think the Super Eagles deserve a higher ranking, or is this a fair reflection of their performances?
