Tolu Arokodare Reflects on Emotional Super Eagles Debut: "I Have No Words"

For Tolu Arokodare, pulling on the green and white jersey of Nigeria for the first time was more than just a football match—it was a dream come true and a moment of pure emotion.

The KRC Genk striker made his Super Eagles debut in last month’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda, and the weight of the occasion hit him so deeply that he was seen crying in the dressing room after the match.

A Dream Fulfilled

Speaking to Genk’s official website, the 24-year-old forward opened up about the overwhelming emotions of finally representing his country.

“It’s what every footballer wants, to represent the country. I have no words. I was very overwhelmed by the moment.”

But beyond his personal pride, the moment meant even more to his father, who had never seen him play professionally in Nigeria before.

“I was very, very happy for my dad because I know it meant a lot to him. I was also very happy he could come to watch me play for the first time ever professionally in Nigeria.”

A Moment That Highlights the Passion of Nigerian Footballers

Arokodare’s emotional reaction is a reminder of what it truly means to wear the Super Eagles jersey. In an era where some players hesitate over international call-ups, his raw passion and pride in representing Nigeria is refreshing.

What’s Next for Arokodare in the Super Eagles?

Now that he has made his debut, the next step is cementing his place in Nigeria’s attack. With Victor Osimhen, Taiwo Awoniyi, and Victor Boniface also competing for starting spots, Arokodare will have to prove himself on the big stage.

But if his emotional debut is anything to go by, his dedication and hunger to succeed for Nigeria are unquestionable.

What do you think—can Arokodare become a key player for the Super Eagles?
