Shaun Wright-Phillips Backs Chelsea to Sign Jadon Sancho Permanently
Former Chelsea and Manchester City star, Shaun Wright-Phillips, has urged the Blues to make Jadon Sancho’s move from Manchester United permanent at the end of the season.
Sancho, who joined Chelsea on loan last August, has a £20m-£25m obligation-to-buy clause, but the club is still weighing its options regarding his future.
Wright-Phillips: Chelsea Should Take the Risk
Speaking to Genting Casino, Wright-Phillips explained why Chelsea should bet on Sancho’s potential, despite his inconsistent performances.
“It seems like Chelsea buy with potential in mind and what players can possibly be or become.
We all know Jadon’s potential. If Chelsea worked the way Chelsea worked, they would normally sign him, because they know what he’s capable of and they’ve seen him do it.”
However, the former winger acknowledged that Sancho’s lack of goal contributions could be a concern.
“But I think what is not helping at the minute is that he is not only scoring, but he is not creating enough.”
Despite this, he still believes Sancho could be a smart signing, considering Chelsea’s track record of taking risks on young talents.
“If Chelsea are taking risks on the amount of players they are taking risks on, I don’t think he’s a bad one. We know what he has already done in a game. If he makes his way back, you’ve got a player on your hands.”
Sancho’s Chelsea Spell: A Mixed Bag?
So far, Sancho has registered two goals and seven assists in 28 appearances—a return that has left many fans divided over whether he deserves a long-term stay at Stamford Bridge.
While his flashes of brilliance are undeniable, his consistency remains an issue, just as it was at Manchester United. Would keeping him be a gamble worth taking, or should Chelsea look elsewhere?
Should Chelsea Make the Move Permanent?
Sancho’s talent isn’t in doubt, but will Chelsea take the risk of fully integrating him into their long-term plans?
What do you think—should Chelsea sign Sancho permanently, or is he not the right fit?
