“Why I chose to respond to Yvonne Nelson with only diss songs” – Sarkodie

“Why I chose to respond to Yvonne Nelson with only diss songs” – Sarkodie

Sarkodie, a well-known Ghanaian rapper, has explained why he did not issue an official statement in response to actress Yvonne Nelson's charges, instead opting to respond with diss recordings.

You may recall that Sarkodie, Iyanya, and Tonto Dikeh were embroiled into an ugly controversy after the actress divulged various facts in her book, "I Am Not Yvonne Nelson."

As regards Sarkodie, she had claimed that the rapper had impregnated her and denied to be its father, which made her abort the child.

Throughout the media frenzy that followed the discovery, Sarkodie remained relatively silent on the subject and never issued an official remark.

Instead, he opted to respond to her allegations by releasing diss recordings. He had refuted her allegation in one of the songs by stating that he wasn't ready to be a parent at the time, but had told Yvonne Nelson to keep the kid.

In a recent interview with American broadcaster Angela Yee, he stated that he does not want to go on media runs because he may lose control when speaking about the subject.

Sarkodie stated that songs served as avenue for him to appropriately present his own part of what happened.

He said;

“The reason I didn’t do any media run or press around it [Yvonne Nelson’s allegations] is because I might lose how I would like to present what I feel about it. This is not the first time. I have done records to address certain issues, or maybe a line or two in a record. There is a certain energy I hate to fill into, especially speaking about it because I might lose my cool.

“With this situation, I’m not going to say I’m super proud of everything. The thing is just in a moment how I felt whether be my truth there should be a way I would have said it.

“That is why I don’t like to speak about it. This is a conversation between two people. We could have a conversation if you want to talk about it because it involves me as well. But because people know Sark doesn’t speak, people think they can say something and know Sark is not going to speak and they are gonna get away.”
