**Antonio Conte Prefers Romelu Lukaku Over Victor Osimhen, Reveals Former Napoli Striker**
In a recent revelation, former Napoli striker Emanuele Calaio shared why Antonio Conte decided to bring Belgium international Romelu Lukaku into the Napoli squad over Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen. According to Calaio, Conte's decision was influenced by Lukaku's leadership qualities and his ability to guide and motivate his teammates.
Conte signed Lukaku from Chelsea during the summer transfer window, following his arrival at Napoli in June. Lukaku was brought in to replace Osimhen, who was widely expected to depart the club.
Osimhen, the Super Eagles star, eventually left the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium under controversial circumstances. He was expelled from the first team after a dispute with the club when his move to either Chelsea or Al Ahli fell through on transfer deadline day. This situation led to him being stripped of his number nine shirt, which was subsequently handed over to Lukaku.
Following the failed transfer, Osimhen secured a move to Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray in early September, marking his exit from the Naples-based club.
Calaio, who enjoyed two spells at Napoli, explained that while Osimhen may be a stronger player than Lukaku, Conte preferred the Belgian for his leadership skills. "Osimhen is stronger than Lukaku, but Conte evidently chose the Belgian because he is a locker room man, a leader," Calaio mentioned in an interview with Napoli Magazine.
Highlighting Lukaku's influence, Calaio referenced Lukaku's stint with Monza, where his leadership and motivational presence were evident on the field. "Have you seen what he did with Monza? It was clear from the TV; he always encouraged his teammates, he guided them," Calaio added.
Conte's decision to choose Lukaku over Osimhen appears to be driven by more than just physical attributes; it’s about the impact he can have in uniting and leading the team, both on and off the pitch.
