Children outside wedlock could end your career in my generation – D’banj
Ace Nigerian singer D'banj has spoken out about the moral divide between his generation and the current crop of musicians.
The 'Koko Master' observed a significant contrast between the moral compass of his generation of musicians and that of today.
He revealed that he occasionally phones his colleague 2Baba, who was embroiled in scandals for having children out of wedlock years ago, to mock him for not encouraging him to do the same.
D'banj said that, unlike his generation, where having a child out of wedlock could jeopardize one's career, celebrities are now recognized for having children out of marriage.
In an interview with The Beat FM in Lagos, the Koko Master stated, "Our generation was very harsh. If you have a child out of wedlock, your career could be over. But now everyone is simply embracing it.
"I'm angry. Sometimes I call 2Face to chastise him for not encouraging me back then, because it's different today to watch them celebrating with their children. They are in their thirties, and their children are teenagers.
"But I think it goes beyond people; it extends to your state of mind. Are you mentally and financially ready? You don’t have to have everything in the world, if you’re ready to embrace what is coming to you, I think that is the best.”
