I didn’t like Pep Guardiola’s training style, was confusing – Messi
Lionel Messi has stated that he did not enjoy Pep Guardiola's training technique at Barcelona, claiming it was confusing.
The Argentina captain expressed dissatisfaction with how Guardiola's tactics were taught to young players at La Masia.
The former Barcelona player stated that the children's inherent abilities would be limited since they were forced to follow a rigorous technique.
Messi, who revealed this in an interview with JP Varsky on Clank Media, also mentioned that six-year-olds were trained to take two touches and play faster.
Messi believes that instead of such training, children should be taught to comprehend the game and improve their movements to discover spaces.
According to the former PSG star (via Mundo Albiceleste), the Guardiola era was unclear. Many six- and seven-year-olds are already being told that they must play with two touches, play quickly, and have little control over the ball.
"I believe that at that age, it should be similar to what happened to me: to teach them to better comprehend the game, to know how to move, to find spaces, to play quickly, but not to take away the spontaneity of each one.”
