Euro 2024: Georgia goalkeeper, Mamardashvili names favourites to win trophy
Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has selected Portugal as one of the favourites to win the Euro 2024 championship, ahead of their last Group F encounter.
He did, however, deliver a strong message to the previous champs.
Both sides will meet on Wednesday, June 26, with Portugal currently in the tournament's final 16.
While Portugal defeated Turkey 3-0 to make it two wins in two matches, Georgia earned their first point with a 1-1 draw against the Czech Republic.
At a pre-match press conference, Mamardashvili stated (via OneFootball): "First and foremost, I am very satisfied and happy because we are here and have taken our first point."
"This is a historical moment. Of course, we could have won in the last minute, and I'm a little unhappy. But this is football; anything can happen.
Speaking on the battle against Ronaldo's team, he said, "Three points would have been very important, but one point will suffice because we will continue our fight and will face a very difficult match against Portugal."
"They are one of the favorites teams to win the Euro. But we’ll play our game there. We will do our best and we will see.”
