Transfer: Man City defender leaves Guardiola's team for new club ahead of Chelsea showdown
Manchester City have confirmed that defender Luke Mbete has left the club to join League One team Northampton Town on a season-long loan, ahead of their Premier League opening against Chelsea this weekend.
The Premier League champions confirmed this in a statement posted on their website on Monday.
"Everyone at the Club wishes Luke the best of luck with his loan to Northampton," Man City's statement read in part.
Mbete, who joined Manchester City as an Under-12, signed scholarship terms in July 2020 before joining the Elite Development Squad for the 2020/21 season.
In September 2021, the versatile centre-back earned his senior Manchester City debut against Wycombe Wanderers in a 6-1 Carabao Cup triumph.
The 20-year-old went on to appear twice for Guardiola's side that season, in a 4-1 FA Cup triumph over Swindon Town and a 0-0 draw with Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League Round of 16 second leg.
