Afrobeats artists are sluggish - Flavour

Afrobeats artists are sluggish - Flavour

Nigerian highlife artist Chinedu Okoli, often known as Flavour, agrees with Jamaican reggae icon Buju Banton that afrobeats music lacks substance.

According to TalkTalk Nigeria, Banton stirred controversy when he claimed in an interview that Afrobeats music is "f*ckery."

He claimed that Afrobeats lacked substance and would vanish over time.

Flavour responded in a recent episode of the 'In My Opinion' podcast, saying Banton was on point.

He believes that Afrobeats lacks depth due to its performers' laziness.

"I get what Buju Banton is trying to communicate. "Kids today [the current crop of afrobeats artists] don't want stress; they want to vibe," he bemoaned.

"Maybe Buju Banton is trying to awaken our spirit."

Meanwhile, Flavour has moved away from the afrobeats genre.

He explained that he is a high-life artist, not an afrobeats artist.

He criticized the boxing of all African artists in the afrobeats genre in Western media.
