'I'm not an Afrobeats musician' - Flavour clarifies

Chinedu Okoli, often known as Flavour, an acclaimed Nigerian artist, has distanced himself from the Afrobeats genre.

Flavour stated on a recent episode of the 'Afrobeats Podcast' hosted by Shopsydoo that he is unconcerned about not being credited with the global expansion of Nigeria's Afrobeats genre because he is not an Afrobeats musician.

He added that he deserved to be recognized for his contributions to African music, but that this will not happen because the media exclusively promotes Afrobeats as an African genre.

"I don't mind not being given credit for the global rise of African music because the media is only talking about Afrobeats." "I'm not an Afrobeats artist," he explained.

"I'm doing African music. There are non-Afrobeats performers promoting African music abroad, such as Fally Ipupa and Diamond Platinumz.

"The media usually just covers Afrobeats. They are not discussing African music. If you talk about African music, you must mention my name."

The Highlife crooner asked the media to promote not only Afrobeats, but also other prominent African genres.
