Transfer: Etebo outlines the reason for joining Turkish Division 2 team Genclerbirligi.
Nigeria midfielder Oghenekaro Peter Etebo has spoken out about his choice to join Turkish second division team Genclerbirligi.
Etebo, 28, made an unexpected move to the Red and Black this summer.
The aggressive midfielder turned down offers from Israel and Turkey's premier league clubs to join the tiny side.
The former Warri Wolves player was out for nearly a year due to injuries.
Etebo trained in Genclerbirligi's facilities while recovering from his injury.
The player said that the club extended him access to their training facilities with no obligation on his behalf.
He stated that the generosity, together with the relationships formed with the coaching staff, encouraged his choice to join the club.
"A lot of people were calling me, asking, 'Why would you go to a second division club in Turkey?" Etebo explained in an interview with SportsBoom.com.
"From January till the end of the season, I paid nothing and trained entirely with the group.
"The coach told me, 'Etebo, I'd tell you something, even before you sign with any team or travel anywhere. Just remember that these are the people that looked after you. So it's quite crucial."
