According to her, she stopped singing due to her ex-boyfriend's harsh criticism of her voice.

She remembered that her ex was unkind to her about singing, so she assumed she couldn't sing.

In a recent interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Jolie stated the criticism damaged her mentally, and she accepted her ex-boyfriend's views as her reality.

"I do not sing. Someone in my life was critical of my singing abilities. I was in a relationship. So I assumed I couldn't actually sing. I'd attended drama school, so it was strange that it had any influence on me. I simply kind of adjusted to this person’s opinion,” she said.
