AFCON 2025 qualifier: Super Eagles battle set for Rwanda in Troost-Ekong
Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong expects a difficult match against Rwanda, but believes his squad will win.
The three-time African champion will face the Amavubi at Kigali's Amahoro Stadium on Tuesday.
"It's my first time in Rwanda, and the welcome was fantastic. We are here on a mission; we know Rwanda has a solid team, and we respect them. "They currently lead our group in the World Cup qualifiers," Troost-Ekong said during a press conference monitored by TalkTalk Nigeria.
"We are looking forward to a fantastic game tomorrow." The boys are ready, and everyone is really motivated. We hope the fans get to see a terrific contest tomorrow."
The Saudi Arabian defender, Al-Khaloood, stated that the Super Eagles are in Kigali to secure maximum points.
"We came here with one goal in mind, and that was to win the game," the former Watford player said.
"We are delighted to have coach Augustine Eguavoen back with us, especially at this crucial time.
"We are one huge family; we are missing a few players who are regulars on the team. It's a full house, and we're ready for whatever Rwanda throws at us."
Troost-Ekong also discussed fan expectations ahead of the big game.
"We are expected to win every game, we are motivated to win this game, the game against Benin Republic was good for us but we expect things to be tough this time around," says the defensive player.
"You cannot compare Benin with Rwanda. It is going to be a major challenge. A game away from home. They will be playing in front of their fans. It will be a huge challenge for us.”
