Actor Apa Reveals Why He Stayed in Nollywood Despite Challenges
Nigerian actor Sanusi Izihaq, professionally known as Apa, has opened up about the struggles he faced in Nollywood and how veteran actor Ibrahim Chatta played a crucial role in keeping him in the industry.
During a candid interview with actress Biola Bayo on the Talk to B Podcast, Apa admitted that he had contemplated leaving Nollywood multiple times due to a toxic working environment.
A Director’s Unfair Treatment
Recounting one of his most challenging moments, Apa shared how a director who had never met him personally vowed to frustrate him.
"Big shoutout to Ibrahim Chatta, I would have left Nollywood if not for him. I remember when a director who had never met me before but only heard about me vowed to deal with me. This is someone I never worked with, but I was eager to."
However, the pressure became overwhelming, leading him to an emotional breaking point.
"Things got a bit tense, and I despised a toxic working environment, so I became emotional and started crying," he recalled.
Ibrahim Chatta’s Support and Encouragement
Apa revealed that Ibrahim Chatta had found him in tears on multiple occasions and consistently encouraged him to stay strong and not give up on his dreams.
"Ibrahim Chatta has met me crying two to three times and asked what happened. I told him I wanted to leave the industry, but he always advised and encouraged me instead."
Despite leaving filmmaking on three separate occasions, Apa credited Chatta for always bringing him back and giving him opportunities to work on his projects, ensuring he didn’t quit Nollywood.
A Testament to Perseverance
Apa’s story reflects the resilience needed to succeed in Nollywood, where struggles and industry politics often discourage many rising talents. With the support of Ibrahim Chatta, he has remained steadfast, proving that mentorship and encouragement can make all the difference in an artist’s journey.
Now, as he continues to grow in Nollywood, Apa’s experience serves as an inspiration to aspiring actors facing similar struggles.
