Late Indian rapper Wala inspired me -Burna Boy
Burna Boy, the Grammy-winning Nigerian artist, has stated that the late Indian rapper Sidhu Moose Wala inspired him when he was "musically exhausted."
Burna Boy said BBC Radio 1Xtra on Wednesday that he was working on a record with Moose Wala before the rapper was slain in May 2022.
"I was exhausted musically," stated Burna Boy. "I was just like, 'I need something new.'"
He stated that he learned about Moose Wala's songs from his admirers and was immediately drawn to the rapper's distinct sound.
“I was like, ‘Wow, this is different,'” Burna Boy said. “This is something I haven’t heard before.'”
He said that Moose Wala’s music inspired him to experiment with his own sound and to push the boundaries of his music.
“He made me want to be a better artist,” Burna Boy said.
"He [Sidhu Moose Wala] was one of the biggest inspirations I had at a time when I felt like I'd already done it all musically," he remarked. I felt like I'd musically exhausted myself in my thoughts because I was listening to everything and nothing made sense to me.
"I felt like I'd already covered everything. Everything has already been said [in songs]. But Sidhu added a new dimension to my musicality. He is a living legend. The Punjab mythology. It will never be repeated."
