The President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau, believes the Super Falcons will be inspired by their impressive performance at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand when they compete at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Nigeria will compete in a challenging Group C of the event, which begins July 25, a day before the Games' opening ceremony, and will end on August 10, when the Games conclude.

The Falcons qualified for the Games for the first time since 2008 after defeating South Africa 1-0 on aggregate in the final qualifying round.

Randy Waldrum, the team's coach, has dubbed their group the "group of death," but Gusau believes the 11-time African champions can repeat their 2023 Women's World Cup performance, in which they lost on penalties to England in the round of 16, after holding Olympic champions Canada and Northern Ireland and defeating co-hosts Australia.

"We'll strive to improve on our World Cup performance, which saw us fall out without losing a single game during regulation time. "The girls have shown resilience and determination to qualify for the Olympics despite all odds, and I believe they will bring that same spirit to the Games in Paris," Gusau said.

Gusau has also put his sights on the podium in Paris.

"After a World Cup performance in Australia or New Zealand, I am confident that no side in our group would take us for granted. We hope to qualify from the group stage and go to the semi-finals, where we can compete for medals. I believe the team will perform well in Paris and return home with medals around their necks. "The girls will be motivated to make their mark in Paris after missing three previous Olympic qualifications," he said.
