2026 WCQ: They thought it was done – Rohr mocks Super Eagles after Benin defeat
Gernot Rohr, the head coach of Benin Republic, blasted the Super Eagles players' mentality following their 2-1 victory in a 2026 World Cup qualifier on Monday.
Nigeria had taken the lead in Abidjan after Raphael Onyedika scored his first goal for the country.
But they crumbled and surrendered twice in a span of twelve minutes.
It was Benin's first victory over Nigeria, and Rohr, who coached the Eagles from 2016 to 2021, complained out their lack of attention.
"We had the necessary organization, and Nigeria scored the first goal; perhaps they thought it was already done.
"But the reaction, the desire of my team was so strong that they could come back and win the match," Rohr told Favour Itua.
