Euro 2024: Portugal will win trophy if Ronaldo accepts he can’t play 90 minutes – Alan Shearer

Alan Shearer, a Newcastle icon, has stated that Portugal might win the Euro 2024 if Cristiano Ronaldo accepts a reduced position in the team.


Shearer talked ahead of Portugal's match against Turkey on Saturday.

Ronaldo did not score as Portugal overcame Czech Republic 2-1 in their opening match.

"This is key to whether Portugal can go on and win the competition, because if he accepts he cannot play 90 minutes every game, that will go a long way to them winning this," Shearer, of BBC One, said.

"When you wake up after a game and want to go again, when you're in pain, that hunger and drive to be the best.

"Everyone speaks in glowing terms about his attitude, it is phenomenal."
