Euro 2024: I feel sorry for you – Foden tells Southgate ahead of Switzerland clash
Phil Foden, a Manchester City player, has claimed he "feels sorry" for England manager Gareth Southgate.
Southgate has faced widespread criticism from fans and the media for his team selection and tactics throughout Euro 2024.
Despite scoring only two goals, the Three Lions won Group C and advanced to the last-16 against Slovakia in extra time.
England face Switzerland in the quarterfinals on Saturday, and Foden has urged his teammates to step up.
"I feel bad for Gareth. In training, he has been telling us to press and be high up on the pitch, and I believe that sometimes it must come from the players," Foden explained.
"We need to be leaders. In games, we could have collaborated a little more and come up with a solution.
"So, yes, we've talked about it more. If it happens again in a game, we can come together and figure out what's going wrong, then adjust our press."
