EPL: Why Chelsea fell 2-0 to Manchester City - Maresca.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has admitted that his team squandered opportunities after losing 2-0 to Manchester City to begin the new Premier League season.
Erling Haaland and Mateo Kovacic scored goals to help the champions win at Stamford Bridge.
Despite having chances at 1-0, the Blues were unable to score until Kovacic sealed the win.
Maresca told Sky Sports: "I believe we competed well for much of the game. We were comparable, if not better.
"The performance was there, but we didn't seize the opportunity. Probably the biggest difference was within the package. I'm pleased with my performance.
"The most important thing to me is to generate opportunities. We did not score, but we generated chances. Their first goal was virtually offside, and we came close to scoring. These factors influence outcomes, although the overall performance was good.
