'Social media eliminated oppression in the Nigerian music industry.' — Danny Young
Popular Nigerian singer Ajibola Danladi, aka Danny Young, has declared that the rise of social media put an end to oppression in the Nigerian music industry.
He said this when recalling how a powerful man purposefully excluded him from an award consideration.
In his most recent podcast, the singer highlighted that social media has reduced the authority that industry gatekeepers once had over creatives.
"The good news is that social media helped to expose many of them by allowing people to express themselves." That is what gave rise to what we now know as Generation Z.
"My definition of Gen Z is freedom of speech, freedom of rights, and freedom of expression."
