How Enyimba, fans celebrated Finidi’s Eagles appointment

Enyimba assistant coach Chijioke Osuagwu stated that the club's ranks were overjoyed after the Nigeria Football Federation announced Finidi George as the new head coach of the Super Eagles on Monday, according to TalkTalk Nigeria Sports Extra.

Reflecting on the joyous development that swept the length and breadth of Aba, Abia State's commercial hub, Osuagwu extolled the virtues of the former Nigerian winger, attributing the jubilation to his infectious professionalism and outstanding interpersonal relationships.

"Monday was a wonderful day at Enyimba and throughout Aba. Everyone at the club is still ecstatic about Finidi's selection as the Super Eagles' new head coach. His  appointment was well deserved,” Osuagwu said.
He added, “The management, the Abia State Government and the players are so happy. He is an easy-going person and is loved by all.

"He earned a name for himself at Enyimba by winning the Nigeria Premier Football League, and I am confident that he can be successful as coach of the Super Eagles as well. As interim coach of the squad, he made history by defeating Ghana, something Nigeria had not done in a long time.

"He gets along well with the coaches and players of Enyimba. He occasionally provides money to the players rather than taking it from them. For example, when he returned from the AFCON in Ivory Coast, he wet our hands."

Finidi's hiring was undoubtedly the most significant sports news in Nigeria on Monday, as the NFF finally finished its protracted hunt for a replacement for Jose Peseiro, whose tenure with the organization body expired with the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, where the Super Eagles finished as runners-up.

His immediate task is to see the team through the 2026 CAF World Cup Qualifiers, which resumes on June 2, with a home game against rivals South Africa.
